Community Foundation

Antioch Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation

This is a three pronged approach to the educational issues facing businesses and the youth in the Antioch and East County region.

The first prong is business education with the goal of creating a thriving economy, creating jobs and reducing commutes.  At this time there are two major projects in this effort.

1. Small Business Information Center:  This one stop facility started in April 2005 and has serviced over 200 residents and potential business owners.  Original funding came from PG&E and the City of Antioch. The center offers a lending library, internet access, counseling and all required forms.  The foundation will seek grants to continue these efforts as well as expand the services offered.  Already one business has made a successful start.  For more information visit the website at www.AntiochSBIC.com

2.  Chamber U:  This is a program under creation that seeks to give soft skills and strategic planning opportunities to potential and existing business owners as well as enhance skills that will create regional leaders.  Examples include ability to speak at a microphone, dress for success, networking, grassroots campaigning and more.

The next approach is the educational events that are organized by volunteers and the Antioch Chamber.  These include the East County Women’s Conference and the East County Economic Summit.  Both events are designed to bring together various groups in the community and seek solutions through education and greater understanding.  The foundation will help with creating scholarships for attendees and bringing in high caliber speakers.  The women’s conference has been in existence for 6 years and the summit is in its second year.  In addition a new program is being created called Chamber University.  This is designed for senior high school, college, citizens and business people to learn key soft skills and community involvement.

The final approach is a partnership with the Antioch Unified School District, Los Medanos College, the Four A/C and the East County Business Alliance, as well as other potential partners, in seeking solutions to the issue of creating work ready students.  The format is still under advisement but could include the creation of programs, scholarship opportunities and mentoring.  Again grants and solicitation of business support will fund this program.

Additionally, we will serve as a parent to regional programs as appropriate.
