Economic Development
Antioch
is one of the most up and coming communities in the Bay Area. With a
growing residential base and an aggressive economic development
program, the city is on its way to becoming a city of the new
economy.
The recently formed Economic Development
Commission, in partnership with the
City of Antioch and the Chamber of Commerce, is on a
campaign to spread the word about the advantages of doing
business in Antioch. Part of the economic development
strategy includes explaining the "Antioch Advantage" to
prospective businesses. Target industries for economic
development efforts include administrative/back office
operations high technology manufacturing and assembly,
biotech companies as well as retail. Antioch also offers an
experienced labor pool and competitively priced land and
office space.
The Antioch community offers action,
advocacy and accountability. Through this three pronged
approach, the City is attracting new businesses and
assisting with the expansion and retention of existing
businesses.
The City markets available resources to
targeted business groups, including high tech manufactures,
professional service firms and back office operations. The
City acts as an advocate when working with other local,
regional, state or federal agencies.
The Chamber is a valuable asset, offering
technical assistance to existing businesses in the City.
This resource allows Antioch’s small and medium sized
businesses to grow, leading to more jobs and increasing the
standard of living. The Chamber offers networking and
marketing events, which leads to more customers and
referrals.
When you account for the real estate
costs, Antioch is easily one of the best choices for the
"bottom line" of a business. The three assets that
facilitate a growing business climate include land, labor
and lifestyle. Antioch is one of the few cities in the
Greater Bay Area where land is still available, and
competitively priced for development.
Retail and office space in Antioch
typically leases for 20 to 30 percent less than comparable
space in central Contra Costa County. Both the mature
industrial areas and the southeast have opportunities for
development, including retail/commercial, office and
industrial development.
Most of the labor force commutes out of
Antioch every day, and is anxious to find jobs locally.
Antioch offers affordable
housing,
plenty of opportunities for fun and you labor force will
appreciate the extra time spent with families since commute
times can be greatly reduced.
The overall goal is to make Antioch an
employment center, not just a bedroom community. This effort
is citizen-driven, bringing together the hearts and minds of
business owners and citizens of Antioch to ensure the city’s
financial future.
